Summer at the mill, facing the Pont du Gard

In July and August the mill lives by the sun: cool mornings in the garrigue, the pool at midday, a siesta beneath the vaults. Then come the evenings under the sails, when the light fades over the Pont du Gard and the cicadas finally fall silent.

The rhythm of the days

The day breaks early and the garrigue still smells of the night: thyme, pine, cool earth. This is the time to walk to the village, or to set off for the Gardon gorges before the heat. Around midday the private swimming pool takes over, between cypresses and olive trees, sun loungers within reach. Then comes the siesta beneath the whitewashed vaults, where the air conditioning and the stone keep things cool. Outside, the cicadas keep time until evening. You return to the shade of the terrace, a book, and time that passes differently.

The evenings

In the late afternoon, the Gardon beaches and canoeing beneath the arches are five minutes away. Then the heat drops and the terrace becomes the heart of the mill again. You dine beneath the sails, facing the Pont du Gard, with the bottle from Château de Bosc awaiting you on arrival. On Thursday evenings in July, the family estate at Domazan, 20 minutes away, opens its grounds for ‘Les Éphémères du Bosc’: wines, platters, music. The Avignon Festival, in July, plays 25 minutes away. The medieval village of Castillon is a short walk for a fresh pizza. On the way back, the garrigue still smells of the day's sun.
